Engineering Student Summer Position

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Engineering Student is responsible for assisting the Project Coordinator to ensure that projects are constructed in a timely and cost effective manner. Akron is currently looking to fill 2 Student Engineering positions for May 15th 2018. This is a 4 month opportunity working out of our Fort McMurray Office.


Key Responsibilities


  • Adhere to Akron’s Policy & Procedures Manual
  • Participate in basic layout and field engineering activities
  • Assist in completing performance monitoring for ongoing operations
  • Research and resolve drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences and errors quality control
  • Aid in the preparation of estimates Assist the project engineering staff with any duties to include:
    Maintenance of project schedules
    Completion of monthly and weekly progress reporting for client submissions
    Completion of daily and weekly cost tracking and analysis
    The preparation of “as built” drawings as required
    The compilation of project turnover documentation
    The preparation of punch lists describing work items to be done, sketches of work already completed, material requirement calculations, etc.
    Coordinate with subcontractors and 3rd party inspection services
    Monitoring and tracking subcontractor work

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Currently working towards an engineering degree
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Outlook, MS Word and Excel skills
  • Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • Registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;
  • Intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;
  • Student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or technical program;
  • A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and
  • Refugee Protection Act* and;
  • Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations
